The story
The FCG National Championship is Future Champions Golf's winter-break championship in Southern California. FCG says it debuted in December 2008 as the San Diego Junior Amateur, drew more than 200 players in its first year, and took its current name in 2015. The 2026 championship is billed as the 20th edition. It is an open event. Players do not qualify: FCG describes it as open, first come, first served, to competitive junior golfers ages 4 to 18, and FCG membership is not required, though members pay a lower entry fee. The organizer counted 575 players across 12 age divisions in 2025, which it called the largest field in the event's history. The 2026 championship is split into two blocks. From December 21 to 23, girls 15-18 play 54 holes at Twin Oaks while boys 9-10, girls 11-12 and girls 13-14 play 36 holes at The Links at Lakehouse. From December 28 to 30, boys 15-18 play 54 holes at Arrowood and The Links at Lakehouse, and the remaining divisions play 36 holes at Twin Oaks, Pala Mesa and St Mark Executive. Results carry into other events: FCG says the winner of each age division earns an exemption into the 2027 Junior World Championship, and the top three finishers qualify for the 2027 FCG Callaway World Junior Golf Championship.
The venue
The 2026 championship uses five courses, which the organizer describes as a new lineup in North County San Diego and Temecula: Twin Oaks Golf Course and The Links at Lakehouse, both in San Marcos, Arrowood GC in Oceanside, Pala Mesa and St Mark Executive. Girls 15-18 play all three rounds at Twin Oaks. Boys 15-18 are split between Arrowood and The Links at Lakehouse, with the final round at Arrowood.
Course setup: The registration pages list tees for 2026 in their round listings: Twin Oaks from the white tees at about 6,100 yards, par 72; The Links at Lakehouse from the gold tees at 5,663 yards in Week 1 and the blue tees at 6,398 yards in Week 2, par 71; Arrowood at 6,487 yards, par 71; Pala Mesa from the gold tees at 5,030 yards, par 72; and the executive course at par 58. The division tables on the same pages do not always agree with those listings: they show the red tees at 5,480 yards for the Week 1 divisions at The Links at Lakehouse and 6,721 yards for boys 15-18. Confirm your division's tees with FCG.
Coach verdict
FCG publishes no college coach count for this event, so do not buy the trip for a gallery. Its recruiting use is the record: a 54-hole result in a 15-18 field the organizer describes as world ranked, or AJGA Performance Stars and a Junior Golf Scoreboard result for younger players, earned in an open field over winter break.
Best for: Any competitive junior from the youngest divisions through 18: FCG lists the event as open to ages 4-18. The 15-18 divisions get the 54-hole format with a cut, and divisions 14 and under play 36 holes. The two blocks are set by division, so siblings in different divisions may play in different weeks.

Competitive insight
Open entry is what sets this apart from an invitational. There is no ranking or qualifier to clear, so each division's field is whoever registers before it fills. FCG asks each entrant for a player resume and handicap and says pairings are made from them. For the 15-18 divisions the format is the stricter one, 54 holes with a cut after 36. Check the past champions page for winning totals in your golfer's division before deciding whether to plan for it.
Scoring context: Winning totals from FCG's past champions page: in 2025, Aston Lim 206 over 54 holes in boys 15-18 and Kaylee Chung 214 in girls 15-18; in 2024, Byungchan Yoon and Hailey Kim each 206. The 2026 course lineup is new, so use these as a guide to the level rather than a target.

Is it worth the travel?
situational valueEntry is $229 to $489 depending on division and membership, with no qualifier to travel to first. Beyond the fee, budget for the nights your division needs in North County San Diego over the holidays, in whichever of the two weeks it plays, and weigh that travel against the exemptions and ranking recognition on offer.
