Foundations

Ages 5 to 9

First clubs, first rounds, and keeping it fun.

At this age the score matters least. The real markers are solid contact, a swing that repeats, and whether the game still feels fun after a bad hole. Gear and programs should fit the golfer in front of you, not a scorecard that does not exist yet.

The milestone that matters here

Clubs that actually fit: sized to height, light enough to swing freely, and a golfer who still asks to go back tomorrow.

Development

Ages 10 to 12

Building a real game and the first tournaments.

Scores swing widely as a golfer faces real course setups and outside pressure for the first time, and that volatility is normal, not a verdict. This stage is for building fundamentals and testing the water in low-stakes events, not for locking in a competitive path.

The milestone that matters here

A first tournament played start to finish: an actual scorecard turned in, under real rules, with the result deciding nothing.

Competition

Ages 13 to 15

Competing for real and reading the scoreboard honestly.

The gap between a good score and a college-track score opens wide in these two years, and a clear picture of the real gap now is more useful than a hopeful one. Ranking systems and real tournament fields start to mean something at this stage.

The milestone that matters here

A real scoring average, built across 15 to 20 tournament rounds against real fields, not one good round at a home course.

Recruiting

Ages 15 to 18

The college search, in the open, with coaches and schools in one place.

The comparison that matters now is to college rosters, not to other golfers the same age, and the recruiting process runs on information most families are never handed. This is the deepest chapter here, built to be read without a sales call.

A free NCAA Eligibility Center Profile Page open, and a real target list built from actual rosters and scoring averages, not name recognition.
