Bingo Bango Bongo Golf: Rules and Scoring
Bingo Bango Bongo offers three points on a hole: first onto the green, closest once every ball is on the green, and first to hole out. The scores do not all become final at the same moment.

Replay the point sequence
Bingo
First on
Ava reaches the green before Ben and Cara. Bingo is decided now.
Bango
All on, then closest
Cara chips to two feet as the final player onto the green. She earns Bango.
Bongo
First to hole out
Ava putts and leaves three feet. Ben then holes from eight feet.
Fictional example; positions are schematic, not measured scale. Away-first order and the stated tie conditions are house agreements, printed in the article.
The short version
- Bingo is first onto the green; Bango waits until every ball is on.
- Bongo goes to the first qualifying hole-out under the stated game agreement.
- The fictional example awards one point each to Ava, Cara and Ben.
One hole, three moments
Frame 1 — Ava reaches the green first. Her approach finishes twenty-five feet away. She has earned Bingo. A later, closer chip cannot take that point back.
Frame 2 — Cara makes the last approach. Ben is already eight feet away. Cara, the final player to get onto the green, chips to two feet. Now that all three balls are on the green, Cara is closest and earns Bango.
Frame 3 — Ben holes a putt. Using the agreed away-first sequence, Ava putts from twenty-five feet and leaves three feet. Ben then holes from eight feet. He is the first player to hole out and earns Bongo.
| Point | When it is settled in this example | Winner |
|---|---|---|
| Bingo | The first ball reaches the green | Ava |
| Bango | Every ball is on the green; compare their positions | Cara |
| Bongo | The first qualifying hole-out in the agreed order | Ben |
Tally: one point each; three in total. Getting closest after every ball is on does not require being first onto the green.
The order agreement matters
A points race should not become a race to hit while somebody else is preparing. This example uses away-first order for the game. Write your group's agreement before starting rather than deciding it once someone sees an easy tap-in.
For the out-of-order variant on our card, Ben holes from eight feet before Ava has taken her twenty-five-foot putt. Our stated house condition gives no Bongo point for that out-of-turn hole-out. That is a condition of this illustrated game, not an invented stroke penalty or instruction to replay a shot under the Rules of Golf.
What happens when two balls are equally close?
The example card splits Bango equally between the two tied players: half a point each. Bingo and Bongo still have their own winners. One plus one plus a split point still makes three points for the hole.
That split is a house agreement. If your group uses another tie treatment, print it above the card and score the example under those terms.
Before playing
Name the three point conditions, playing-order agreement, tie treatment and whether concessions can earn a point. This card requires an actual hole-out for Bongo. Keep the game moving and record points after everyone has finished the hole.
