Golf Rain Checks and Refunds: Who Handles the Booking?
A rain forecast does not automatically cancel a tee time or create a cash refund. Start with who took the booking and what has actually happened.

Three weather situations; three evidence sets
Original planning worksheet
Three weather situations; three evidence sets| Situation | What changes | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Forecast only | Ava sees rain expected tomorrow. | Check cancellation terms; do not assume the course has closed. |
| Confirmed closure | The course tells Ben it cannot open. | Keep that confirmation and contact the party responsible for the booking. |
| Round interrupted | Cara has played seven holes when staff stops play. | Ask how the exact policy treats played holes, credits and expiry. |

The short version
- Identify the booking channel and its terms.
- Ask the course to confirm closure or interruption.
- A rain check can be restricted credit rather than a refund.
Start with the reservation record
Save the date, tee time, course, player count, payment record and booking channel. A third-party prepaid offer can have different cancellation administration from a direct reservation. Contact the responsible channel while also establishing the course’s actual operating decision.
Do not assume a course employee can reverse a third-party charge immediately or that a booking platform controls whether the course is safe to open. Those are separate responsibilities.
Ask what the remedy actually is
A refund returns money under its terms. A rain check may be a credit with an expiry, permitted uses and transfer restrictions. Kananaskis currently states that its rain checks are valid for 365 days and usable for golf fees rather than shop, snack or restaurant purchases; that is its policy, not a standard for every course.
For an interrupted round, record how many holes were played and what staff instructed. Avoid leaving without checking how the policy is documented.
Compare weather risk before buying
Ask about the cancellation window, closure procedure and interruption remedy before paying. Keep a written answer if the booking page is unclear.
Use twilight planning for time-limited products and frost-delay planning for a delayed opening.
