Golf decisions

Michigan golf trips: choose one region before booking rounds

Michigan golf is a collection of regional trips. For a short stay, choose one region and build the course plan around it. Southwest Michigan, the Traverse City area and the Upper Peninsula offer different bases; a statewide wishlist should not silently turn the spaces between them into playable golf time.

Three fictional regional plans and a transfer decision

Three fictional regional plans and a transfer decision
  1. 1

    Fictional: southwest two-night stay

Four golfers want several course choices without changing accommodation.

Investigate Gull Lake View’s six-course collection around its Augusta base, then confirm which course pair and lodging product are available.

  2. 2

    Fictional: northern Lower Peninsula stay

A group wants northern Michigan golf alongside Traverse City activities.

Use a northern base and the detailed Traverse City guide; do not add Upper Peninsula rounds as if they were neighboring courses.

  3. 3

    Fictional: Upper Peninsula package

Friends want Sweetgrass, Sage Run and other courses offered in an Island Resort package.

Check the actual course locations and transfers. The package name does not mean every round is on the hotel property.

  4. 4

    Fictional: combining two regions

A traveler wants Augusta golf followed by an Upper Peninsula stay.

Make the transfer a separate travel block before adding another round. No drive-time estimate is assumed in this plan.

Fictional itinerary structures based on official locations and operator terms. These are regional routing choices, not a driven route map, live quote or available package.

The short version

  • Choose the region that fits the arrival and departure plan.
  • Separate a one-base itinerary from a route requiring hotel changes.
  • Read the correct season’s terms before turning a package page into a reservation.

Southwest Michigan: compare a course collection

Gull Lake View publishes six championship courses. Pure Michigan places Gull Lake View East at 7417 North 38 th Street in Augusta. This gives the trip a concrete southwest starting point rather than a generic 'Michigan golf' label.

For a two-night plan, reserve the arrival period for travel and check-in, put the main round on the full day, and add departure-day golf only after the journey works. Compare the exact courses and lodging arrangement offered. A resort collection can simplify the shortlist without establishing that every course shares an entrance or an available tee sheet.

Northern Lower Peninsula: keep the detailed route local

The Traverse City area includes distinct resort bases. Grand Traverse Resort is in Acme, while Crystal Mountain is in Thompsonville. The former offers three courses from a central clubhouse; the latter offers Mountain Ridge and Betsie Valley. Their location and guest-status differences belong in a northern itinerary.

Use the Traverse City guide for course-level choices, then decide whether one base or two is worth the move. A three-night trip can retain an arrival block, two principal golf days and a departure block without requiring a new region. Verify the actual season and course operation before filling every block with golf.

Upper Peninsula: price the transfers as part of the trip

Island Resort’s package information identifies its Upper Peninsula base at Harris. Sweetgrass is on the resort property; its package options can also involve Sage Run, TimberStone and Greywalls. The operator’s FAQ lists substantial inter-course distances, so those names should not become an assumed walkable resort circuit.

The request page says 2026 package requests are closed and presents a separate 2027 request process, requiring available package dates to be requested thirty days before arrival. Those are published conditions, not checked inventory. Choose the regional structure first, confirm the actual rounds and rooms, then compare total cost and travel time using the dates you intend to take.
