The short version

  • Prep uses nine-hole tournaments.
  • Medalist uses eighteen-hole tournaments.
  • All American is the advanced 36-hole pathway; verify current eligibility.

Use the published hole-count distinction

NTPGA presents Prep as beginning-level tournament experience, Medalist as intermediate and All American as its highest tour competition level. The published pathway distinguishes nine, eighteen and 36 holes. That is a more useful starting point than selecting the most impressive name.

The example plans do not set official scoring standards or promise readiness. Discuss any uncertainty about the correct tour with the organizer.

Price the season you will actually use

List membership, separate event entries, transport, accommodation where needed and withdrawals. A nearby eighteen-hole event and a two-day trip create different family workloads even if a player meets both entry conditions.

Check the actual season’s age dates, open registration and any required rules education. Avoid treating a broad pathway page as the complete terms for a particular championship.

Review after real starts

Choose a bounded opening set of events and assess pace, scoring independence and enjoyment. A difficult first day does not automatically mean the player needs a higher tour or a more expensive season.

Use first tournament preparation and building a schedule for the practical plan.
