OGA Junior Golf Divisions: Nine Holes, Eighteen and Open
The 2026OGA Junior Golf Handbook separates age divisions, Major-only Open and different event formats. Choose the actual event first, then its division and entry conditions.

Age is one branch, not the whole entry decision
Original teaching comparison
Age is one branch, not the whole entry decisionWhich facts apply?
CASE 01
Eleven-year-old age division
A fictional eleven-year-old checks the handbook's 8–11 division and the actual age/date conditions for the event.
The handbook describes a nine-hole round for this age group. Do not copy an eighteen-hole statement from another series.
CASE 02
Twelve-year-old age division
The otherwise similar twelve-year-old checks the 12–14 division.
The handbook describes an eighteen-hole round. A birthday/date question still belongs with the event's actual age rule.
CASE 03
Major-only Open
The handbook lists boys 14–18 with Index 7.0 or less and girls 12–18 with Index 14.0 or less.
Open is not a replacement offered at every OGA junior event. Check the Major and the deadline assessment.
CASE 04
A different event task
EJ Play Days are nine-hole noncompetitive events; Summer Series is described as eighteen-hole competitive play.
Choose the format that fits the task rather than assuming all junior events share one holes table.
Original hypothetical choice card using the 2026 handbook, especially pages 8,11 and 12. It does not certify a player's age/Index or approve a play-up request.
The short version
- The 2026 handbook lists boys' and girls'8–11, 12–14 and 15–18 age divisions.
- Twelve and older play eighteen-hole age-division rounds; eleven and younger play nine.
- Open is a Major-championship option with separate age and Index conditions.
Use the handbook linked by the current membership page
OGA's current Join page links its 2026 Junior Golf Handbook. That handbook is the source for the age divisions here. An older help article still presents a different division-count table; do not combine the two as though they describe one current structure.
Check the edition and event packet before using these 2026 examples for a later season. The page does not claim that a 2027 handbook or every event's available division has been verified. A public membership link is also not proof of a place in a particular tournament.
Keep Open and format differences attached to the event
The handbook's Open option applies to Major championships, with the separate boys' and girls' age and Handicap Index requirements shown in the card. The corroborating Open help page says Index eligibility is assessed at the entry deadline. Meeting those conditions does not automatically complete entry.
EJ Play Days, Summer Series and Winter Series are not interchangeable age-table labels. The handbook describes nine-hole noncompetitive Play Days, eighteen-hole Summer Series and modified Stableford Winter Series. Read the event type before applying a round-length or scoring assumption.
Finish the entry checks
Record the event, format, division, applicable age/date rule, membership and residency conditions, deadline and actual confirmation status. A play-up request requires committee review; a parent cannot unilaterally create permission to enter another division.
The handbook distinguishes an entry confirmation from approval and a waiting-list place. Preserve that distinction when planning travel. This guide answers the OGA division choice; the existing registration and schedule guides keep the broader administration and calendar tasks.
