Confirmed section calendars include fall golf in Section 2, spring golf in Sections I and VI, and boys golf in both fall and spring in Sections III, IV, VIII and XI, so the season depends on the school's section. New York City public schools run golf separately through the PSAL.

Girls on boys teams

Girls may play on boys teams. Where a school provides separate competition for boys and girls in a sport, the superintendent may permit a girl to participate on a team organized for boys; boys may not play on girls teams where separate competition is provided. Schools must submit the names of girls on boys teams to the league and section before any contest. For individual sports, when a school district does not have a team for each gender, a Section Executive Director may grant a waiver for sectional competition to a student who has met the qualification for the current year's NYSPHSAA championship (Standard 15, Mixed Competition).

Statewide rule
The NYSPHSAA 2026-27 championship schedule lists the Girls Golf and Boys Golf Championships on Sunday, June 6 and Monday, June 7, 2027 in its Spring 2027 block, which shows a season start date of Monday, March 8, 2027. The NYSPHSAA Handbook says Section Athletic Councils, with the approval of the NYSPHSAA Executive Committee, determine all sports seasons (Standard 29), so each section sets its own golf season. The NYSPHSAA start date for fall 2026 high school sports other than football is Monday, August 24, 2026.
Section I (Dutchess, Putnam, Rockland, Westchester)
The Section I athletics website lists Boys Golf and Girls Golf under Spring Sports. The girls golf booklet posted there is the 2026 edition (first practice March 9, 2026); no 2026-27 Section I golf dates are posted.
Section 2 (Capital District)
The Section 2 website lists Boys Golf and Girls Golf under Fall Sports. For 2026-27, girls golf first practice, scrimmage and match are permitted August 24, 2026, with the Section 2 individual championship and state qualifier on October 6 and 7, 2026 and the team championship on October 6, 2026. For boys golf, the Section 2 golf dashboard lists individual sectionals on October 13 and 14, 2026 (the top 9 plus 2 alternates represent Section 2 at the 2027 NYSPHSAA individual tournament) and team sectionals on October 20 and 21, 2026.
Section III (Central New York)
The Section III website lists Boys Golf under both Fall Sports and Spring Sports, and Girls Golf under Spring Sports. Section III 2026-27 start dates are Monday, August 24, 2026 for all fall sports other than football and Monday, March 8, 2027 for spring sports; the start dates document does not name golf.
Section IV (Southern Tier)
The Section IV website has a Golf (Fall) page under Fall Sports and a Golf (Spring) page under Spring Sports. The 2026-2027 boys golf handbook lists a fall season starting Monday, August 24, 2026 (Class A and B tournament October 5, 2026 at Soaring Eagles) and a spring season starting Monday, March 8, 2027 (Medalist Tournament May 20 and 21, 2027; Class C and Class D tournaments May 24, 2027). The girls golf handbook linked on the spring page is the 2025-2026 edition (girls golf practice began March 9, 2026); no 2026-27 girls golf dates are posted.
Section V (Genesee Valley)
The Section V website lists Girls Golf under Fall Sports and Boys Golf under Spring Sports. In the most recent completed seasons, girls golf sectionals were played in October 2025 and boys golf sectionals in May 2026.
Section VI (Western New York)
The Section VI Fall Golf page says 'Golf is a SPRING SPORT' and points to the Golf (Boys) and Golf (Girls) pages under Spring Sports.
Section VIII (Nassau County)
The Section VIII 2026-27 season dates list a spring start of Monday, March 15, 2027 for 'B/G Golf'. The Spring 2027 boys golf handbook lists a season start of March 15, 2027 and says the county tournament qualifies 6 conference champions (3 from fall, 3 from spring) and 4 wild cards (2 from fall, 2 from spring), with 72 golfers (36 from fall, 36 from spring), so boys golf is played in both fall and spring. The Nassau County Championship is listed as May 18 and 19, 2027 (tentative) at Bethpage.
Section IX (Orange, Sullivan, Ulster)
The 2026-2027 Section IX Boys Golf page lists the OCIAA Championship on October 13, 2026 and the Section IX Championship on October 19 and 20, 2026, with the top 9 advancing to the NYSPHSAA Boys Golf Championship in June 2027. The Section IX Girls Golf page still shows 2025-2026 information, with the Section IX Championship played May 20 and 26, 2026; no 2026-27 girls golf dates are posted.
Section XI (Suffolk County)
Section XI lists three golf sport pages: Golf (Fall - Boys), Golf (Spring - Boys) and Golf (Spring - Girls). The Fall Boys Golf page lists 2026-27 championships, including the Individual County Championship on October 19 and 20, 2026, and a 17 contest maximum; the Spring Boys Golf page lists a 16 contest maximum.
New York City (PSAL)
The PSAL golf page lists Golf (Coed - SPRING) and Golf (Girls - FALL) among its 2025-2026 seasons in review, says PSAL Co-ed Golf replaced Boys Golf in 2014, and shows girls varsity golf matches scheduled in October 2026 (for example October 13, 2026).
