Class-based seasons
In South Dakota the golf season depends on class as well as gender. Class AA and Class A boys play in the fall. Class B boys and girls in Classes AA, A and B play in the spring. The handbook table labels these as Boys A/AA (fall golf) and Girls AA/A/B and Boys B (spring golf).
Conference tournaments
Member schools in a conference made up of Class A and B schools, or of in-state and out-of-state schools, may hold their conference golf tournament in either the fall or the spring. A team may have organized practice with a coach for a maximum of five days before an out-of-season conference tournament.
