In Washington, golf is a spring sport for boys and girls, with the 2026-27 season starting March 1, 2027 and the state championships on May 18-19, 2027. The WIAA Handbook also lists an alternate fall golf season, with first practice on August 24, 2026. State championships are held by classification (1B/2B, 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A) at several courses.

Girls on boys teams

Girls may play on boys teams. Conditional. The WIAA Handbook (Appendix 2) says that where a school has both a boys team and a girls team in a sport, girls should play on the girls team. Girls may, at the discretion of the local school board, participate with boys in any interscholastic activity if there is no girls team or equal opportunity. A team with both boys and girls is considered a boys team. If a girl competes on a boys team in cross country, golf or tennis, she is not eligible for the Boys State Championship but may attempt to qualify for the Girls State Championship.

Alternate fall golf season
The WIAA Handbook (Rule 40.1.0) lists an alternate fall golf season for boys and girls in 2026-27 with first practice August 24, 2026, a 50 percent rule date of September 28, 2026, 12 contests plus a jamboree and no minimum practice days. Season end is listed as November 14, 2026 in Rule 40.1.0 and the Season Dates summary table, and as November 15, 2026 in the Season Dates detail table and on the MyWIAA golf resources page. The MyWIAA page also lists first practice as August 4, 2026, which differs from the Handbook. Rule 17.3.2 requires a postseason qualifying event during an alternate season. The only state championship dates published for golf are May 18-19, 2027.
