Massachusetts Four-Ball or NET Four-Ball? Check the Pair

The 2026 Mass Golf Four-Ball and NET Four-Ball have different eligibility and selection tests. One combined team number cannot be substituted for each player's required range in the other event.

Three fictional pairs and a separate scoring question

Original teaching comparison

Three fictional pairs and a separate scoring question
Pair A: 2.0 and 3.0

Assume the other 2026 requirements are met. The combined Index is 5.0.

That clears Four-Ball's combined numerical maximum of 6.0, but does not establish field acceptance.

CASE 01

Pair B: 10.0 and 14.0

Assume both are male amateurs at least 21 by the NET event's stated date and meet the other conditions.

Each is within the NET 8.1–18.0 range. Their entry still faces the event's lottery.

CASE 02

Pair C: 7.0 and 8.0

The combined total is 15.0, and neither individual reaches 8.1.

This pair does not pass either of these numerical examples. The two events do not guarantee a fit for every pair.

CASE 03

The scoring basis

A player's registration Index differs from the twelve-month-low Index referenced for NET scoring.

Do not multiply the registration figure and declare a Playing Handicap. Follow the event's complete published handicap instructions.

Original fictional arithmetic and screening cases for completed 2026 events. Other requirements are expressly assumed where stated; no actual entry, lottery result or Playing Handicap is certified.

The short version

  • Four-Ball's stated maximum is combined 6.0, not 6.0 for each partner.
  • NET Four-Ball requires each player in 8.1–18.0 and its male/21+conditions.
  • Low-to-high selection and a lottery are different processes; neither is first-in.

Use the championship's combined screen

The 2026 Four-Ball page requires two amateur golfers with active Mass Golf memberships, a combined Index no higher than 6.0 at registration and the five-round/twelve-month posting condition. The maximum applies to the pair's total.

Apart from exempt pairs, selection is by combined Index low-to-high at entry close. An eligible pair does not acquire a place simply by entering early. The public eligibility wording does not carry the NET event's male/21+conditions, so those should not be copied into this separate championship.

Use the NET event's individual screen

The 2026NET Four-Ball requires male amateurs, each at least 21 by August 10, 2026, active memberships and each individual's Index between 8.1 and 18.0 at registration, with the same stated posting-history condition.

Its field is selected by a random lottery after entry close. A lower Index does not receive the championship's low-to-high treatment, and submitting first does not replace the lottery. Track a submitted entry and an actual acceptance as different outcomes.

Keep net scoring and a later season separate

The NET page refers to 85 percent of the twelve-month-low Index for play and a maximum Playing Handicap of 18 under its published instructions. The registration Index and that scoring basis are different inputs; this article is not a standalone handicap calculator.

Both compared 2026 events have finished. Use the current edition's packet when planning a future pair, including its membership, age, posting, selection and scoring conditions. The linked general formats guide owns ordinary four-ball play; this page owns the two Massachusetts entry choices.
