Tobacco Road and the Matchbox: choose the course before booking
Tobacco Road and the Matchbox are different visits. The main course includes a cart; the Matchbox is a walking-only short course with a separate entrance. Decide which experience the group wants, then keep the course name, booking terms and arrival plan attached to the same reservation.

Four fictional booking decisions
Original teaching comparison
Four fictional booking decisions| Situation | What changes | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Fictional: full-course priority | Four golfers want the eighteen-hole Mike Strantz course. | Select Tobacco Road in the operator-linked booking route and confirm that the reservation names that course, with its included cart. |
| Fictional: a short walking visit | Two friends want the Matchbox and plan to carry only a few clubs. | Use the Matchbox course choice and separate entrance. Small carry bags are limited and first come, so do not assume one will be waiting. |
| Fictional: January 2027 trip | A golfer expects an unchanged eighteen-hole Tobacco Road round. | Read the operator's January–February 2027 irrigation notice stating seventeen holes, then decide whether that visit still fits the trip. |
| Fictional: changing the party | A four-player reservation may become three. | Check the terms on the actual confirmation for reductions and cancellation; do not import a deadline from an older booking provider. |

The short version
- Select the full course or the walking-only short course deliberately.
- Use the entrance and equipment plan for the course you booked.
- Read the actual confirmation before relying on any cancellation or party-change deadline.
Two-course visit card
| Product | Transport and equipment | Arrival address | Terms to retain |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tobacco Road | Cart included; full-course plan | 442 Tobacco Road, Sanford | Exact 2027 operating notice; reservation/change conditions |
| The Matchbox | Walking only; carry bag stock limited | 1259 Rocky Fork Church Road, Sanford | Named short-course product; actual booking conditions |
The courses have different practical requirements
Tobacco Road's golf page presents its full course and the Matchbox short course separately. The Matchbox uses synthetic turf and is described as twelve-and-a-half holes, while the linked booking platform labels the product twelve holes. That label is a reason to read the named product carefully, not evidence that the main course has changed.
The operator's need-to-know page says the Tobacco Road cart is included, while the Matchbox is walking only. Matchbox carry bags are available in limited numbers on a first-come basis. Choose equipment and walking expectations before adding the visit to the day; a cart assumption from the main course does not carry across.
Use the right entrance and operating notice
The main course lists 442 Tobacco Road in Sanford, North Carolina. The Matchbox has a separate parking entrance at 1259 Rocky Fork Church Road. Tobacco Road arrivals use the bag drop and golf shop, while Matchbox visitors follow the walking trail to its own shop. Put the booked course's address on the arrival plan.
The same official page says Tobacco Road will operate seventeen holes in January and February 2027 because of irrigation work. It also publishes a separate summer 2027 aerification closure. Those notices belong to their stated dates. Verify the applicable course notice before committing the rest of the trip, and allow for cashless payment as the operator requires.
Confirm the booking product and its terms
The current golf page links to a Noteefy booking landing page with separate Tobacco Road and Matchbox filters. On October 24, 2026, that page announces that the 2027 tee sheet opens November 1. A published opening notice is not proof that any particular future time is available.
Before paying, retain the course, date, players, price inclusions, party-change rules and cancellation conditions shown for that reservation. The operator's weather-closure policy describes a prorated, nontransferable rain check and no refunds; it does not establish an ordinary voluntary cancellation deadline. If a needed deadline is absent, obtain clarification from the course before relying on it.
