Torrey Pines mixed groups: separate the reserver from each player’s rate

A mixed Torrey Pines group has two different questions to answer: who holds the reservation, and which green-fee category applies to each player. Keep those questions separate from the booking charge. One resident in the party does not turn every golfer into a resident-rate player.

Two mixed-party budgets and two booking checks

Original teaching comparison

Two mixed-party budgets and two booking checks
  1. 1

    Fictional: weekday North, two players

One qualifying resident-card holder and one adult visitor want an eighteen-hole Monday–Thursday North round.

The 2026 Monday–Thursday green-fee illustration is $51 plus $163, or $214 before booking charges and any equipment or cart costs. Confirm the mixed-party reservation charge rather than inferring it.

  2. 2

    Fictional: weekend North, four players

Two qualifying residents and two adult visitors plan the same Friday–Sunday or holiday North round.

The 2026 green-fee illustration is two times $68 plus two times $204, or $544. The reserver’s identity does not make all four green fees equal.

  3. 3

    Fictional: the absent reserver

The player of record can no longer attend but wants friends to use the time.

The city says the named reserver must be present and play; the reservation is nontransferable.

  4. 4

    Fictional: an unavailable morning

No suitable reservation appears and the group considers the day-of-play waitlist.

Treat that as an on-property, availability-dependent fallback rather than an equivalent confirmed booking.

Fictional green-fee arithmetic using the January 1, 2026 schedule. Booking charges for the actual mixed-party transaction, carts, rentals and inventory were not tested.

The short version

  • Use the City of San Diego’s own booking information and the correct player category.
  • Booking charges are separate from green fees and do not reduce them.
  • The player of record must be present and play; check-in is required at least thirty minutes ahead.

Record every player’s status

A resident tee time requires a valid City Resident Card, based on the city’s stated qualifying residence conditions. The card must be presented at check-in for the resident rate. A visitor’s hotel stay or friendship with a resident does not establish that player’s eligibility.

Make one line for each golfer: resident-card status, adult or applicable junior category, chosen course and weekday or weekend date. The city’s 2026 North and South tables differ substantially. A group total built from the North table should never be reused as a South-course quote. In the cited 2026 rate table, Monday–Thursday uses the weekday column, while Friday–Sunday and holidays use the weekend column.

Keep reservation charges in their own column

The current city booking page lists no resident booking fee within seven days and a $32 nonrefundable per-player fee eight to ninety days ahead. Its nonresident category lists a $50 nonrefundable, nontransferable charge across the zero-to-ninety-day window. Those charges are not credited toward green fees.

The written page does not resolve every mixed-party checkout detail. Use the actual reservation category and transaction confirmation to establish that charge; do not invent one pooled rate from the green-fee examples. Online availability releases at 7 p.m. daily, with a limit of two times and eight players per reservation holder per day.

Confirm what must happen on the day

The city says tee times cannot be transferred or rescheduled, and the player of record must be present and play. Players must check in at least thirty minutes before the time or risk forfeiture. Build travel, identification and equipment collection around that requirement.

If the reservation cannot be secured, the city describes an on-property virtual waitlist using cancellations and no-shows. Keep that uncertain outcome separate from the confirmed plan and avoid promising every party member a place. Recheck the current fee year and course conditions before turning the examples into a trip budget.
