Whistling Straits as a Visitor: Access, Walking and Caddies
Kohler says its golf courses are open to the public without a resort stay, but nonresort Straits reservations may have restrictions. Check the named course and actual booking terms before treating a trip plan as reserved.

One visitor plan, four separate confirmations
Original teaching comparison
One visitor plan, four separate confirmationsA fictional pair staying off-property wants the Straits Course.
Public access is a possible route, but obtain the actual nonresort booking conditions and a confirmed time. No fixed window is supplied here.
CASE 01
Walking arrangement
The Straits Course prohibits golf carts; Irish, River and Meadow Valleys have different cart arrangements.
Do not apply one Kohler course's transport policy to another.
CASE 02
2026 caddie worksheet
If both players choose walking caddies, the published 90-dollar per-person fee makes 180 dollars for two. Suggested 70-dollar per-bag gratuity makes 140 dollars for two bags.
The conditional planning subtotal is 320 dollars before green fees and tax. The tip is suggested, not a compulsory charge or a total trip quote.
CASE 03
Reservation status
The pair has researched the route but has no confirmed tee time.
Keep lodging, golf, caddie request and cancellation terms separate until the operator confirms them.
Original fictional two-player worksheet using written 2026 policies, not a booking, played-course review, green-fee quote or guaranteed nonresort reservation window.
The short version
- Straits is walking-only; a general cart statement does not override that rule.
- Caddies are recommended rather than compulsory under the read 2026 policy.
- A caddie fee, suggested gratuity and green fee are separate budget lines.
Public access does not establish your tee time
The current Kohler FAQ says the courses are public without a resort stay and notes possible Straits restrictions for nonresort guests. It does not publish a fixed nonresort window in the body read for this guide. Do not replace that uncertainty with an invented 24-hour,30-day or two-night rule.
Name the course, party and dates when checking the official booking route. A public-access statement does not mean that every date or group size has inventory. Confirm the actual time before building the rest of the itinerary around it.
Read the named course's walking and caddie policy
The 2026 rates-and-policies page says Straits is walking-only and caddies are recommended, not required. It describes a double-bag facility. Its general FAQ language about companions riding or walking does not create cart permission at Straits.
Irish, River and Meadow Valleys permit carts under their own arrangements, with optional forecaddies and advance reservations recommended. Their cart and forecaddie fees are not the Straits walking-caddie fee. Twilight Straits caddies require advance arrangement; a replay is subject to walk-on availability after the first round, not a second reserved tee time.
Keep the price lines and terms separate
The written 2026 walking-caddie fee is 90 dollars per person at check-in; the suggested gratuity is 70 dollars per bag afterward. The operator excludes Wisconsin sales tax and gratuity from its listed rates. The example shows the arithmetic for two people without calling the suggested tip mandatory.
Green fee, lodging, tax and cancellation terms remain confirmation fields in this worksheet. No 2027 price or current availability is established. Use the linked generic caddie guide for service distinctions and the course's actual reservation terms for cancellation; a rain-check rule is not automatically a general refund promise.
