How to measure a junior golfer for clubs

Height is the primary variable every manufacturer’s chart is built on. Wrist-to-floor is the secondary check a professional fitter uses to fine-tune from there, since two golfers at the same height can still have different arm length. Neither measurement needs special equipment.

Height with shoes on

  1. Measure with shoes on, as U.S. Kids Golf instructs, standing on a hard, flat floor rather than carpet.
  2. Stand fully upright against a flat wall, heels, back, and head touching if possible, looking straight ahead.
  3. Use a proper tape measure or a wall-mounted height chart, not a guess based on where they reach on a parent.
  4. Re-measure at the start of each golf season, and more often during a known growth spurt.
  5. Enter the measured height directly. Do not add a guessed shoe allowance to a barefoot measurement.

Wrist-to-floor

  1. Follow your fitter’s measurement instructions, including which shoes to wear. Stand upright with arms hanging relaxed at your sides.
  2. Find the crease where the wrist meets the hand.
  3. Measure straight down from that crease to the floor, keeping the tape vertical rather than following the body.
  4. Note the number alongside height. It won’t change which manufacturer band a golfer falls into, but it’s exactly what a fitter checks in person to confirm a chart-based size still feels right.

U.S. Kids Golf's published height bands start at 36 inches, so a toddler shorter than that falls below their standard junior sizing entirely.
